Kids Laptop Safety
If you are looking at purchasing a laptop for your child, then safety should the number one priority. There are many factors to consider which parents would not normally think about. Firstly, look at buying a laptop which has longer battery life than normal. This is so you can give the laptop to your kids, without giving them the power adapter. Having a power supply lying around the table, which is connected at one end to the wall socket, then having the other end exposed to the laptop, can be dangerous. It is much safer to fit the laptop with a battery and give them something completely portable for their use.
Alternatively, make sure the laptop and all of its accessories are conveniently packed away after each use. A cute laptop case or laptop sleeve will be perfect for this use. Putting the device in a case will not only protect it from being damaged while in transit, but it will also keep their fingers away from any sockets or holes in the laptop which could be carrying static charge after it has been turned off.
Most laptop toys will now be constructed with a rounded edge, to prevent scratching of their fingers during handling. However, to be extra careful, you can always buy extra padding and tape it to their corners of the device. These are an alternative to the rubber cases which can be purchased for mobile phones. Many manufacturers will build this into their device. Remember not to place the laptop in a high area, like on the kitchen bench. Since a child will most likely reach up to get it, it can easily fall onto their toes if they are not careful. Please them in an easy to access area, minus the electrical accessories. Of course, it makes good sense to have all your power outlets in the home protected with child safe locks to guard them from usage when you are not in the same room.
Outside of this discussion but of high importance, is to always fit your homes with a power safety cutout device. These will not only protect your children in the event of a electrical storm, but will also protect the laptop from power surges in your neighborhood. It is worth installing these first even before you start purchasing your laptop. If you children enjoy using the laptops at the dinner table, then keep them away from all liquids to minimize spills and accidents. There is nothing worse than a sticky keyboard and even though no immediate danger is present, any liquid which is found inside the electronics can cause a short circuit later on in the day. The first action to be taken is to turn off the laptop and let it dry naturally. Do not turn it in again until you are certain that there is no liquids left inside the laptop.
